Lloyd paused in the doorway of his history class, clutching onto the strap of his messenger bag. There was an open seat by some of his basketball teammates and one waved him over. But there was also an open seat right next to this really cute boy he'd been crushing on for awhile. His teammates knew he was gay, but it wasn't something they really talked about - a couple of his teammates had been on his junior high's team. He gave them a guilty smile and quickly moved, slipping into the seat next to Xavier Rivers. He set his messenger bag on the floor and pulled out his textbook, notepad, and pen, setting them on his desk.
He twirled his pen between two fingers, subtly glancing over at Xavier as his mind tried to figure out some way to spark a conversation that wasn't the typical "hi." Nothing was coming to mind. He heard snickering and shot a look back at his teammates. The few guys that he was pretty sure were fine with his relationship preference were grinning at him and giving him a thumbs up. He quickly looked away, horrified. Was he that obvious? God, he hoped not.
He forced himself to stop twirling his pen and set it down on top of his notebook. He rested his arms on his desk, clasping his hands together to keep from fidgeting. He took in a breath and let it out before swiveling in his seat so he faced Xavier.
"Hi," he said despite how lame he thought he sounded. He hoped Xavier would reply soon or ignore him - he didn't know what else to say. Just looking at him sent butterflies fluttering around in his stomach. He could only imagine the affect Xavier talking to him would have. And if he ignored him, he reasoned he could just turn back to facing the board and pretend that he hadn't spoken up at all and later complain to his familiar.
